SAVE LEPAQ!

This is from my Dear Abang Atraz.

A PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Its been almost a year since Lepaq open its doors, welcoming everybody and anybody, from all walks of life. I started this place to build a platform for bands and performers. I wanted to give them a chance to showcase their talents, where others wouldn’t. I took them in with open arms, gave them a stage,, a mic and my fullest support. From an unknown underground joint which situated far from the REST I’ve created a mass followers from the indie n underground musicians, performers and to the public eyes.

Sadly I can no longer give them that chance. After almost a year, due to monitary problems it saddens me to announce that Lepaq is closing its doors. I have been working hard to keep Lepaq alive but one man can do so much.
I come here today before you, to ask for your kindness and generosity to contribute and help save Lepaq.

We are starting a ‘TABUNG SAVE LEPAQ’ . Our target is RM50 or your sincere generosity of helping us to SAVE LEPAQ and we need a thousand people to contribute to our cause . The stipulated Dateline will be on Friday 7th Feb 2009.

There is nothing for me to feel ashamed, becoz. LEPAQ its not about me but about US.WE should make our HOME. We should PROTECT our HOME and We should SAVE our own HOME. We are ONE and WE ARE LEPAQIANs. LEPAQ is the 1st Underground Joint and I hope and I pray that with enough support and contribution from all of you, we save LEPAQ.

Thank You

Now this is from Arman (I think this is how you spell this)

Dear Friends,

I am a kaki Lepaq and I am not ashamed to admit it. From the second week it opened till now, 8 months later, I have made Lepaq my home away from home as I’m sure many of you have as well. It is the music that keeps drawing me back. Week after week I am amazed at the talent that Lepaq manages to showcase. Guys and girls from nowhere pop up and perform like seasoned pros. Singers, musicians, good or bad, they get under that spotlight on that little stage at the corner of the café and they do their thing. They do and we watch. And we all watch because of one thing…for the love of music.

More than just the music though is the man that runs it. His name is Atraz, the self-proclaimed “Dewa Lepaq” as many of you know him by. Even though he’s the most foul-mouthed mofo you’ve ever met, you can never accuse him of not being open and honest. That’s a straight-up guy if you ask me! He works hard night after night, his bald head seen moving from corner to corner as he warmly greets and take care of those that stop at Lepaq. Young, old, Malay, Chinese, Indian, even the sesat Mat Sallehs have sat awhile to enjoy an evening of rock, soul, pop, jazz, blues, reggae…yeah, whatever right! It’s a place for friends, but more importantly, it’s a place to make friends. That’s what makes it so special. But as hard as our Dewa works for Lepaq and the music, sometimes it’s not enough.

LEPAQ URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP

Lepaq today, as with many other businesses in this current economic situation, is in need of your help. Just when business is picking up (yes, I will swear to this as I am a regular), they find themselves short in funds to keep the place alive. For some of us that knew, we were deeply saddened. For those of you that are finding out now, I’m sure this will come as a shock.

Please know that every effort was made to help save Lepaq and that this email was decided as a very last resort. Believe me, without urgent help, Lepaq will remain closed as it is today. That is how serious the situation is.

So on Lepaq’s behalf, I am asking all you music lovers aka Lepaqers out there to extend a kind hand and give generously. Your contribution, big or small (ok, bigger the better but RM 10 pun ok), will be greatly appreciated. The hope is to raise enough funds to keep Lepaq alive and soon able to stay on its own feet. With business going well like it was, I know they can survive. Then talents can keep being found, and we can be there to watch and enjoy.

Sincerest thanks to all that have and continue to support Lepaq!

Sincerely,
Raja Muda Lepaq aka Dewa in waiting
