Last Saturday was the day my future husband's family visited my house to merisik. Merisik (literally translated to English as 'investigating' the bride-to-be) is done to ensure that I am available and not tied to anyone in any way possible. It is also the best time for two families to break the ice and get to know each other properly, and of course, to discuss about the upcoming wedding.
To cut things short, it is a pre-engagement ceremony.

His family brought with them a notification ring and a 'tepak sirih', as a symbol to notify my family that they are interested in proposing me to be a part of their family. The tepak sirih acts as a gift to my family. It is a really simple, straight to the point kinda pre-engagement ceremony.
The moment my Uncle, the acting spokesperson, 'accepts' the ring, it means they are open for discussion. A normal heavily cultured Malay would be exchanging poems but of course that didn't happen. My Uncle can't even rhyme anything to save his life.

Now that the whole pre-engagement thingamajig's done, we are now looking forward to the next phase - Engagement. Can't wait to get all these done and over with.

Keep calm and be married. Eh, I mean merry.
PS: Only doing this here because I am too shy to post this anywhere else, and because my amazing colleagues insisted on me posting my cincin tanda somewhere. Luls. So tahdaa.
